All those killings were "police actions" within a sovergien state that he had legitamate power over, i.e every killing had de facto legality within iraqi law, he was the boss he could do what he liked.

Taking him to the international law courts would have been the worst thing ever for the US, saddam would have had the trump card of if the US doesnt recognise it niether should he. and with the doubious and complicated international vs sovergien state laws it is no where near the same as milosovic.

Surely the minority Sunni will arrange more revenge for his death. Most likely more of those quite so effective and infamous death squads. And the majority Shia in general seem satisfied with his death, except the fundamentalists, who perhaps cannot be satisfied. The Shia is backed by Iran and only God knows what they have planned..

In my opinion the Americans should just withdraw and give Iraq to Israel. Then sit back and watch the whole region explode. Would be a spectacular fireworks display.

yup, but this is a country that supports the death penalty and he simply authorised thier deaths. According to local law at the time (which was essentially him and his cronies) he didn't do anything unlawful. It would be like hanging Bush for authorising the death penalty while govenor of Texas.

I dont buy the death of Saddam will cause more violence angle though

There is already so much violence, and they dont need an excuse for even more. If mroe is coming it will come whether Saddam gets the drop or not
