Personally I feel that while im against the death penalty in general, if you break the laws in a country where they have a death penalty then they should carry it out. You can't make exceptions for famous people

Indeed, law of the land etc. Bit funny that Blair is cheering it on though, I thought he was against the death penalty?

problem is though that he's being tried for international crimes. He really should have had this done at the Hague under international law IMHO.

His supports are already doing this though.

I thought Saddam was being tried for murder of his own people, thats why it is being done in Iraq, rather than the Hague.

The internaiton courts will probably try him afterwards

Yes he's been sentenced to death for killing kurds in his own country, as far as I know - which means it falls under Iraqi jurisdiction.

And yes his testimony at the Hague trials will probably be a tad... impeded?

So... Saddam kills Kurds in his own country and it's a local thing, but Milosovic kills albanians in his country and its an international war crime?

why the double standards?

I'm not an advocate of the death penalty, but in a case like this where so many have been murdered and there's absolutely no room to doubt his guilt...

I can't say that I object.

If he is sentenced by his own nation, there is far less chance of him being seen as a martyr.

Milosovic wasn't leader of Albanian was he?

in which case he is killing another country's citizens?

Plus I think Yugoslav republics wanted him to be tried in the Hague rather than at home (Where he might have got off!)

I don't think this is going to help their situation, though no doubt they're hoping it will.

Like the verdict on Saddam, the republicans losing is a foregone conclusion. Or at least I'd hope it is!
