That sounds like a pro-active suggestion. Kids, don't try this at home.

Poxy trick or treaters, and people who call you miserable and mean if you don't think knocking on strangers' doors and begging is a great idea and "just a bit of fun". Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's begging. Pure and simple begging. The parents, you know. *nod nod* I blame the parents. I'd never let my little darlings out to terrorise the neighbours by demanding sweeties and money. If they need sweeties and money for something they'll jolly well get them from me, and be grateful for it, etc. etc. I did however, find myself this evening, smiling like an idiot and saying "Happy Hallowe'en, sweety" to a disgracefully high number of presumably parentless and orphantile sorts dressed as assorted minions of evil and/or spce-girls (much of a muchness) and cheerfully handing out Haribo Star Mix Treat-Bags and Lolliops as I did so.
I do not LIKE Hallowe'en. We do not CELEBRATE Hallowe'en. So why oh why oh WHY was I up and down to the door dozens of times, handing out little bags of sweeties? JUST LIKE LAST YEAR?!

me - I was all for ignoring the door .... unfortunately the small person that also lives here got really excited anytime there was a knock on the door, so I ended up letting her give sweeties to the ungrateful wretches (who looked supremely unimpressed at things along the lines Gwyn mentioned earlier)

I don't answer the door, it's all those stupid gits who insist that I'm a Scrooge and a killjoy that get on my nerves!

Killjoy yes. Scrooge, no. Scrooge is the NEXT festive celebration.
The Goodwill to All Men one.
Fewer beggars, more dodgy old men in red suits with a penchant for small children sitting on their laps. Apparently.

no no - more beggars in the scrooge season ! this time poor half frozen kiddies dressed up in woolies and allegedly singing something that is supposed to be a carol......usually begins mid november hehe
luckily where we live no one can ever find us cos we are tucked away at the bottom of a dead end..........even my wee lads little glowing green pumpkin that i had sat in my front garden's bird bath didnt entice any trick or treaters to our door *grins*

I agree that Christmas is often worse...the kids usually only get away with begging for one night at Hallowe'en...at Christmas the blighters do it all the way through December!

I wish someone would teach kids that 'We wish you a merry Christmas' isn't a carol...

Would a banner across the front of the house proclaiming "Carol Singers Will Be Shot" be ... I don't know, in bad taste?

I'd just forget the warning and go for the firearms anyway
