Dentists...

How is it that a normal dentist belittles everything "this will only hurt a little" right before something excrutiating for instance... but Dental surgeons exagerate everything?

Had two wisdom teeth out today, under sedation* and was told "do not drive, cook, clean, juggles chainsaws etc for 24 hours and you MUST have someone to look after you" well so far it's been 12 hours and after the wobblyness wore off I'm fine, why I would need someone to look after me is a mystery right now - sure I could probably have acted up a bit and found someone willing to nurse me back to health, but I'm not far gone enough to even start pretending.

* Supposedly I was awake, but from a momment or two after the intravenous stuff, till being awake in the recovery room (I don't remember waking up!) my mind is blank - except an unusual crunching noise that I remember rather more vividly than I'd like

My wisdom teeth are still pushing through and I'm 30.. but I refuse to go to the dentist, one of them has properly pushed through and rubbing against the inside of my gum so I'll get some bonjela I think.

oooh lucky you! When my trouble wisdom teeth had to be pulled in hospital it was only under local sedation so i was fully conscious as they cut and drilled for 45 minutes to get it out. (the infection afterwards was even more horrible

See that's why I won't go near dentists. Don't trust them, just like doctors.

It's really worth shopping around.
My other half was terrified of dentists due to bad experiences in the past, but due to the fact his mouth was practically cemented shut with tartar, I made him go. He had to have a lot of cleaning and two sessions of root planing to sort out his tartar and gum disease. However, his dentist was marvellous.

I go to a nice Somalian lady who gives injections just right, so they numb the tooth, not the cheek, rather than the other way around like most dentists I've had in the past.

It's really worth looking for a good one.

that is very true

My own dentist is great also. he's been my dentist since i was a child. (my wisdom teeth had to be pulled at the hospital tho as didnt dare pulling them himself)

I agree with Cal. I spent awhile looking for a good dentist and it makes a huge difference.

I have a dentist that can do a filling with no injection.

... and I have no wisdom teeth... which is nice.

i would just like to find a NHS dentist full stop - since i moved i have been trying and they have all got closed books where i am
so sometime soon i figure im gonna have to pay to go private...........the one i had in london before moving was a very good dentist - never had any problems with him at all

Good luck finding an NHS dentist. Where I live, there are 900 people in front of me on the waiting list!

yeah I'm certainly not going to pay to have the pain inflicted on me. I have got a medical plan with cashback but it only pays ?90 for dental care unless its an accident. But I also get ?220 for a childbirth, that'll come in handy for when I have another kid.
