Petrol Under this system

Petrol + Tax Under The New System

And compared them unfairly, I would like to see Petrol + Tax Under this system.
The figures are not what you think Griinshar.

the ?212 is the maximum road tax on a car - it's asuming one of those huge mega 4x4's ... that's without petrol at all. This is the maximum anyone will pay on road tax (and in a super ultra hybrid I think it's more like ?120 or similar). This figure was used because it's the top whack a parent with kids can be expected to fork out each year

Now the new system will cost a mother taking her kids to school - even in a ultra evironmentally friendly hybrid car ?1032 per year (based on sally's figure of ?86 a month over 12 months - yes the school year isn't 12 months, but kids still need ferrying back and forth so it's a fair estimate still)...

The tax is being touted as a good way to help the environment - but the new system wont be fair at all ...

If you want to work out the tax for fuel - it's about 75p per litre, and the average family car manages about 35 miles per gallon - for the sake of "bar room maths" a gallon is 5 litres... you add that to BOTH systems.

Aeri - you mentioned an alternative being important... how about they get a new Chancellor who'll stop p*ssing our tax money up the wall so badly that he has to raise every tax he can find.

He added a one off tax last year of ?10billion to the north sea oil companies
He doubled the airport tax
He increased fuel alcohol and tobaco duty

And yet

He has given the police such tight budgets they're having to "streamline" thier "services" - the Met asked for ?100,000 from motorcycle manufacturers to bother tackling motorcycle thefts in london. Sussex Police have asked financial experts to look at which "services" they can cut to avoid mass lay offs - and most constabularies across the country officially have no traffic police because they can't afford them as well as policemen to tackle other crime
The NHS have had to lay off nurses left right and centre and yet he claims to have increased thier budget massively

So where is all our money going? Perhaps getting Gordon Brown a calculator might save us the need to add on this tax few people can afford

Maybe not such a good tax then, But, I still like the idea of trackers.*

If everyone had to have one they'd not be free though...

?200 each.

17 million cars
2 million motorcycles
X amount of trucks/buses/taxis

equals ?3.8billion + 200X

So Gordon Brown would probably do it for free, but then sack 19000 nurses/policemen/firemen/ambulence workers to cover the cost.

No such thing as a free meal remember - speaking of meals time for dinner. Maths makes me hungry.

Mushroom

The trouble with this is they'll have a hard time getting people to buy these things and it will take a long time for such a scheme to be put into use.

Though just heard 97% of people think its a bad idea (radio one ftw)

Also..Sally with your house number and post code they can locate your address, thats why you don't need to write it all in.

Just to make it clear, I didn't compose all that, I pasted it. I do know about house numbers and postcodes.
Anyway, over a million people have signed now so it's not going to be happening just yet.

So?

This will make no difference at all, If you were an intellectual person (child) like me then you'd listen to radio two. Where they have clearly been telling us that even though this petition is going ahead nobody has offered any alternatives. And if we keep it the same as it is now than congestion will increase by 25% this decade.
