With the recent chatter about pregnancy and the like- I was wondering...
what has been the most idiotic comment or 'bit of advice' people have foisted on you unsolicited regarding pregnancy or babies?

Yes. Yes I have a particular 47 hour experience that left a recollection considerably more than 'it smarts a bit', now that you mention it.
Edited to add:
Actualy...Yes...I've a good mind to write a formal complaint to whoever is in charge of giving sweet ickle 19 year old chickies 47 hour labours. That's not on at all. I demand my money back!

"You'll feel differently when you're older."

I turn 40 next year and I still have absolutely no inclination to have children.

Yup...that one's right there with the "You'll feel differently once its born" statement.
How many mothers that really did never want children for one reason or another have been fooled into having them with that statement I'll never know.

Motherhood is certainly not something designed for every woman.

I agree. It is good we live in an age where you have a choice. The choice to decide not to have kids, in the old days you didn't have much choice!

Yay Contraception!

"I'd be really worried about getting pregnant because all your teeth fall out"

I worked with a woman who said that during a lunch break...

Her reasoning behind the statement was that a friend who was pregnant lost a tooth. Well there we go, proof positive that at the instant of conception your teeth fire out of your mouth never to be seen again

All your teeth fall out. Oh man, tha's funny. I think the reasoning there must come from a time back in the mists of yore when people were hard pressed to find a bit of calcium, so the evil paracite baby would be seen to nick what it needed for ossification from its mother's stores- bones and teeth. Someone needs to tell that girl that her theory is slighty...er...arse.
