Musical taste and age

I've had the usual age cliches flung at me because I hate shite rappers, recycled songs and death metal, among other things; so here's a poll, and I'd like to see what sort of music you like and what you detest. Let's see if it's an age thing or not.....

I saw the title...and despite being in the pink place I had to post :/

Im pretty streamline as far as Music is concerned....Anything from Radio 1 Rock[as I like to call it] to old things like Ledd Zeppelin, Classic Punk Like the Undertones, Metal new and old and super weird Hybrid Metal Music like Enter Shikari....which im sure I have mentioned before for being completely PWN!

Dont like, Pop Music, Classical, Rap, Hardhouse/Dance [Pill head music] and country music should be left to americains :/

Oh and the age Thing.....im 21 :O

I like:
The Clash, Sex Pistols, Damned, Siouxsie etc
Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, White Stripes, The Horrors, The Gossip, Jamie T, Jack Penate
Damien Marley, Toots and the Maytals and lots of reggae, dub and ska
Abba, Erasure, Wham, Squeeze, XTC
David Bowie, T-Rex, John Otway, Doctor Feelgood, Count Bishops, George Thorogood, Steve Harley, Velvet Underground, Ian Dury, early Rod Stewart, Led Zeppelin, New York Dolls
Kate Bush, Yusuf Islam/Cat Stevens, Tim Buckley, Dusty Springfield
Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Temptations
A pretty wide selection I think, and there is lots more.

I don't like:
Country and Western, apart from Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline
Opera
Rap, apart from Cypress Hill, Eminem when he's not whining and Dizzee Rascal
Coldplay, James Blunt, Travis, Mika, Evanescence, Oasis
Beyonce and all her clones, doing their rubbish songs with no tunes
People who don't write their own songs, but just nick a backing track from an established song and put new words to it (like Mutya Buena's new single).
All those Dutch/French/German faceless blokes who churn out mindless repetitive dance music, generally taking one line from an old song and just repeating it over and over and over again over a monotonous backing track.
Death metal. Blamming guitars and some bellowing arsehole who sounds like he's gagging on a mouthful of lava, and mostly in German.

I get the feeling yer dissing Rammstein, Buttons! *frowns*

I like: Rammstein (ner), Disturbed, rockbands beginning with M (Metallica, Megadeth, Motorhead, Manson, Maiden...), Frank Black, Skunk Anansie, Prodigy, Depeche Mode, various late 70s/80s bands like Human League, And and the Ants, Sisters of Mercy, Joy Division/New Order, Cure, Cocteau Twins, Banshees etc, Sparks, Louis Armstrong, Muse, some techno/trance, some classical.

I hate: R&B, especially the slow, whiny stuff like Akon; reality TV bands, fucking Oasis, whining twats like Coldplay, Travis and the others Button mentions, late 60s Beatles, everything Radiohead did after The Bends. Sure there's much more but can't think of it really.

I like: Power Metal, some Black Metal (Graveworm, Eisregen eg.), Industrial (Manson, Rammstein, Eisbrecher, Deathstars), Classical (Orff's Carmina Burana and Holst's Planet Suite in particular), old school heavy metal and rock (Motorhead, Hammerfall, Alice Cooper), some awesome Prog Metal (Iron Maiden and Replica X come to mind), and some Gothic and Symphonic rock/metal (Nightwish, The Gathering).

I utterly loathe almost everything in the charts, and I want all emo bands, most black metal, rap musicians (except a handful who have real skill and originality), all that Cal mentioned hating, Trivium ESPECIALLY, and many other musicians eliminated forever.

Also, I'm not so hot on Dragonforce, but whatever gets Power Metal exposure...

I like:
The Clash, Sex Pistols, etc
Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, White Stripes, The Bravery, The Shins, Death Cab For Cutie, Modest Mouse etc
Bob Marley, Eek-A-Mouse etc
James Brown and alot of the funk stuff.
Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Stan Getz etc, traditional jazz kicks ass.
David Bowie, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Supertramp, Velvet Underground, early Rod Stewart, Led Zeppelin, New York Dolls
Kate Bush, Yusuf Islam/Cat Stevens, Jeff Buckley, Dusty Springfield
Coldplay, Travis, Mika, Oasis
A pretty wide selection I think, and there is lots more.

I don't like:
Country and Western, apart from Johnny Cash
Opera
Rap, apart from Cypress Hill and Eminem (some Dre)
Beyonce and all her clones, doing their rubbish songs with no tunes

In short - Sally's taste is quite good.

ok im in your over 40 group that just sounds too ancient hehe but hey ho i feel soooooooooooooooo much younger !

as for music - i enjoy listening to so many different types easiest to say what i most listening to atm :
Linkin Park (love love all their stuff), Good Charlotte, Lacuna Coil, Within Tempation, Nightwish, Evanesence, Daniel Bedingfield, Snow Patrol, Coldplay, U2, the odd Justin Timberlake, Kylie (incl and Kylie and Nick Cave track from a while back which is awesome), some Korn, some Metallica (bf's influence coming through there)

also enjoy stuff from the eighties like Teardrop Explodes, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Smiths, All About Eve, The Damned, The Mission, The Cult (alot of "The" names there hehe) ....

cant stand jazz - sets my nerves on edge and makes me want to scream....not too keen on 70s disco stuff either though I make an exception for Abba cos their's was my first ever album i bought - my second was Motorhead *grins* even then i liked extremes in music

*shamelessly copies Victors copying of Sallys post, because it saves a lot of typing*

I like:
The Clash, Sex Pistols, INXS, White Stripes, Bob Marley,
Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Gerry Rafferty,
David Bowie, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kinks, The Cure, Bob Dylan, Arlo Guthrie,
Pink Floyd, Supertramp, Deep Purple, Blue Oyster Cult, early Rod Stewart, Led Zeppelin, Yusuf Islam/Cat Stevens, Jeff Buckley, Dusty Springfield, Eric Clapton, Mike Oldfield (some)
Queen (up to Kind of Magic, i´d say), Nick Cave, CCR, Tito and Tarantula,
Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, , Judas Priest,
Some Metallica, Motorhead, Marillion,...
Lordi(whatever kind of metal that is, these guys are fun!), GWAR (dito),
Apocalyptica and some others who play rock/metal with classic instruments and/or choir, it usually fits and is still different.
ZZTop(it´s kind of repetitive though),
early Meat Loaf,
Some Classic/Orchestral/Opera (there are some fine pieces of music, can do without the singing)
Some of the Fun-stuff: The King, The Boss Hoss, Weird Al Jankowicz

A pretty wide selection I think, and there is lots more.
It´s mostly a mood-thing...

I don't like:
Country and Western, apart from Johnny Cash

Rap
Beyonce and all her clones, doing their rubbish songs with no tunes
People who don't write their own songs, but just nick a backing track from an established song and put new words to it (like Mutya Buena's new single)
But(!) it made me dig out some nice old stuff.

All those Dutch/French/German faceless blokes who churn out mindless repetitive dance music, generally taking one line from an old song and just repeating it over and over and over again over a monotonous backing track.
Death metal. Blamming guitars and some bellowing arsehole who sounds like he's gagging on a mouthful of lava, and mostly in German.

hmm...I think I end up in the 20-30 group...

Arctic Monkeys, Black Sabbath, Blutengel, Disturbed, Entakt, Enya, Evanescence, got a single track with Fear Factory I'm quite fond of, Infernal, Kashmir, Korn, Linking Park, Manson, My Chemical Romance, Nephew, Nightwish, Prodigy, R.E.M., Rammstein ofc, and Static-X

Quite sure there's a few I've forgotten :P
I quite simply can't stand music like Craig David and the like, wishing they were shot to death with tiny bits of salmon...Not too fond of rap either, but there's some decent stuff out there.

Soon 31.

I like Rammstein, Within Temptation, Nightwish, Angtoria, Volbeat, Korn, Metallica, Marilyn Manson and loads of others in the genre.

I get the urge to smash the stereo, when I hear Aqua, Infernal, Those total jerks with the "Numa Numa" song. Oh - and the cows with the ketchup song!
Not so fond of pop/dance/techo/electronic/classic/rap.

Like: Most stuff as long as it isn't bleepy electronic crap that takes the imagination of a slug to churn out, pop pap, (c)-Rap or some screamy warbling bint who has an entourage, none of whom have yet been able to convince her that showing flaps means the skirt is too damn short.

Dislikes: All of the above. I will not be putting my hands up for Detroit, nor will I be standing under that bint's umbrella.

I'm 33, btw.
