was a horrible horrible day ... despite having had her teeth brushed twice a day since she was tiny, and she doesn't have loads of sweets or anything, her teeth were really rotten so she ended up under general anaesthetic to have them removed - i felt soooooo mean

Ohhhh the poor little sweetheart! That's awful!
Though, not of course, as awful as leaving the poor little angel with then IN her mouth.
We've been really lucky with ours, dentist trips are always very straightforward - lots of 'Perfect' and a sticker or what-have-you at the end...so the dentist is Mister Nice Guy so far anyhow.

When I was small (as opposed to now when I'm a whole 5 foot, woohoo!) I had to get a tooth out when I was about the age she is now, and I was never 'allowed' sweeties or fizzies either, so just goes to show no matter how fanatical you are about minding their little teeth something can still cause chaos.

aye - I don't know how true it is, but I either heard or read somewhere that if you're ill with a cold or something while the teeth are developing they might be weaker. It's probably more just luck or something - my brother's teeth used to get horribly yellow through lack of brushing, and he never had any problems

Did they say specifically why they had gone all rotten?

I'd had trouble with a wisdom tooth that came through and sort of shattered straight away, and then another one did the same more recently - been told they're hyperplagic (sp?) and that the enamal just never formed and sometimes "it just happens" been really lucky its only been my wisdom teeth though as they really fell appart

no, they never said why ... we've been to the normal dentist, had numerous extensive visits to the paediatric densist, then the dental hospital ... they all start on about diet and drinks, sometimes it feels like i'm hitting my head against a brick wall with it. all i have to reassure myself with is that i've done the best i can. i know people with kids who eat sweets and drink fizzy stuff all day that have no problems, so hell knows - she must just be unlucky. hopefully her adult teeth will be stronger

I had that with several molars, angels. I had my first crown at 12. I have four crowns now and I don't have a single molar without a filling.
On the plus side, because of my colossal jaw, my teeth are well spaced and I've never had to have any out.

well as much as the dentist is hated i still wish we could get one but nope they are all private up here and we seriously cant afford private dental care

You'd think there would be rules about having to have a dentist within a certain distance - what about those too old to work, on tiny state pensions... or single mums who barely manage to keep out of the red each month...

Here you have to wait a little over a month to see an NHS dentist, but at least you get to see one... very bad situation for teeeth in this country

I still have my wisdom teeth. Two of them impacted. The NHS dentists are very hard to find I agree. Sad really Government need to seriously invest in the health system badly.

I'm blessed with a big jaw so there were room for all my teeth. The only thing is I used to have a big gap between my first two teeth - I could get my tongue in there - but it closed up completely when my wisdom teeth arrived.
