I have seen quite a few people creating child characters recently, and wonder what people base their characters on when creating them. Some characters are very believable, for instance Gared. When I interract with him, it's hard to believe that this is not an actual little boy, even though I know it isn't.
Sadly on the other side of the fence, are the people who seem to have a very strange perception of how children behave. Take the language for instance; putting an "S" on the end of every word, and saying "me" instead of "I" is not at all convincing. I for one have never met any child who talked like that, and I doubt if anyone else has either! It's especially strange if the child is meant to be in their early teens, and is calling me Sawwy, and talking about getting a pair of "shoozies" or some other nonsense.
I would advise anyone who wants to make an orphan or other child character, to watch people like Gared, Tim or Kayleigh and learn from them, but NOT to make a carbon copy. Watch real children in your family and see how they talk and act, and it will make your child character a lot more believable. I am aiming for the Serfs to do a more natural form of roleplay, where we are the ordinary working people (plus the odd layabout). We laugh, cry, comment and complain about our daily life, we are nosey, often silly and get into trouble sometimes. Oh and NONE of our families were eaten by Orcs!!! (Or even eated by dems orcsies, *rolls eyes*)
