Charlotte picks up the journal she had bought from the scribe shop. Her mother had told her to write down her daily life so she would remember stuff to tell them in her visits. She picks up the new pen and opens the ink bottle.

Well, here it goes....mama wants me to keep a journal so I will. Its been busy here since I came. Weeks of training then getting an award then a medal and a promotion. Captain says I am the hardest working cadet hes seen. And now I'm not a cadet anymore but a private. Felix and I started off kinda strange, he accidentally shot me in a training with Yew. And as an apology he bought me a dress and accessories. Then we started talking and going on training hunts alone and I almost gave up on him. Then we sat in the Rose after every one had left and talked til it was late and he walked me home. Now, we are a couple and I miss him when hes away doing marksman stuff . I worry about him now too when we go into battle. Went home for the harvest dance without him. Felix thinks we shouldn't rush into this too quickly even though we have told each other the there isn't any one else. He said he would go with me next year. I hope he does because this year wasn't all that fun , I had to avoid two fellas that didn't believe me when I said that i had a boyfriend. I never went out with them when I was at home, why would I dance with them now. Felix wants Kaelyn to do a portrait of me for him so he can look at my face, when I'm home visiting my parents. He is so sweet. I am careful when we are in battle to act professionally and not a scared girl.

Charlotte carefully dries the page then closes her book.

Charlotte opens the book with shaking hands.

Oh today was horrible we fought the Kaldorians and lost badly but that wasn't the worst. They captured the Captain and lashed him badly. He looked so bad and he was unconscious when they told us to take him home. I ran to get the elven healer who's the Captains friend and then Gwen his lady came in. I heard Mordred had came to apologise but i cant understand why they would do that. Torture isn't a battle that is just pure cruelty. I know I should be braver but I went back to my house and cried. Im so worried that they would do that to Felix too, he is second-in-command.

Tears leave marks on the page and blurring a letter or two on her page

Charlotte looks around her room before opening her book. She takes the inks and pen and writes, but the letters are a little shaky

Ive been jumpy all day today after the Captain and I chased off a viper from command. I have been feeling watched ever since. When we asked him who he was spying on he told us it wasn't necessarily just one of us. I have to admit it here, that the other night after seeing the Captain so bad, I went to the tavern and got bottles of the strongest stuff I could buy, and tried to drink the sight of the poor captain away. I don't remember getting back to the barracks, and I found myself in one of the other's bed in the barracks, in the morning, with a bump on my head and a hangover that could kill and ogre lord. I know I was telling some of those Kaldorians off before I lost my memory. They think we can be civil and talk like we were friends after what they did. Now, every time, I turn around here is Hugo popping out and making me jump, following me around.

Charlotte sighs and closes the book and blows out the candle

Charlotte looks at her journal before opening up the book to a new page. Her hands are shaking and she is wondering where Felix is.

Today wasn't a good day, I got up and went to Trinsic and looked around then did my own snooping around Stronghold again. I had tried last night after every one had gone to sleep, but Hugo surprised me when I was looking around their tavern. He let me go after he told me he took me back to the barracks and reprimanded me for drinking . That one temple is scary no wonder why they are blood thirsty people. Well I went back to New Paws and decided to get rid of the mud from Stronghold by using the bathing house. I'm sitting there soaking when I hear this splash. I yell out and no one answers so i get out and get dressed and come out of the women's tub only to find a half naked Hugo standing there. First I screamed at him then kinda laughed he looked funny soaked in his uniform. Some viper. I went about my business after asking him why he is following me and getting no answer. I went into town after eating and there he is standing with only his kilt on trying to dry out his leathers. I told the other guards what he did and giggled at him. I told him that he needed to oil those after they dry or they would squeak when he moved. Had to show him how to do it. Kaldorians must not have to take care of their own armour. After awhile it was time for that lecture in umbra so I decided to go. I missed part of it when i was trying to find it. I only stayed til it got filled with too many Kaldorians. Also Cal had said that this expedition the people were going on was important to Kaldor history. I was feeling too crowded in by Kaldor and left. I came back to Trinsic and was talking to Natalie when Kaldor started to come into the gate. I had been having a snack and talking to Nat when Mordred came up and started to tell me that I was supposed to tell the Captain to stop and that if he didn't more of what had happened would happen to more than just him . I told Mordred that what he did was awful and all he did was get madder. Then Cal started telling me the same thing and soon I was surrounded by the other Kaldorians. I felt like they were going to beat me then and there. Then I find out that Nat is dating Mordred. I could have died. She told me she couldn't take sides but she would have TRIED to stop them if they were going to beat me. Not a lot of confidence there . I walked away and felt horrible. Sure enough Hugo pops up and he talks to me like we are friends, now he tells me he is ordered to follow me around and then Shelly comes up asking him if he had seen where the Captain was. That made up my mind I wasn't going back to New Paws and letting him spy on the Capt. He gave me a pear since my food before was destroyed and I checked it for potions. He kept telling me that Kaldorians are nice people that they were just following orders. I decided to go back to the tavern to get something more to eat and he followed. Then while we were eating , Himasa pops up and scares me. Shelly comes in with Kaelyn and I'm standing there in shock and she asks me what is wrong I told her I was going to have to get a new heart if they didn't quit scaring me. Hugo told her he was ordered to follow me around and she told him he could still do it just make sure he stayed visible. Her i just paid her to do a picture of me for Felix. I was tired so i tried to sneak out with out him seeing I was gone. He was busy talking to Shelly and Himasa. No such luck he caught up with me int eh forest and proceeded to talk to me all the while I was going back to the barracks. He disappeared when we got with in sight of command so I hoped he had went away. I found the Captain and told him what had been happening. He got all upset and said that was enough and went to Trinsic. I followed as fast as I could. I didn't want him getting hurt cause of me. There was screaming and yelling and then Talon apologised to me for Hugo being in the baths. The Capt and I came back here and talked about it. Our only friends seem to be the Yewians and I dont like them much, no manners.

Charlotte closes her journal with a sigh and goes to bed

Takes journal off table and begins to write.

Today wasnt a good day . I tried to go to the Rose and it was filled with kaldorians and i was hungry . I left and went to the taven in town but they were out of hot food only had cold meats and cheeses for the evening crowd. I turn around and here is Hugo still following me. He asks me why I left and I told him i didnt think i was welcome in there. He said he would go back for cider and some food for me but i told him no. I dont want him getting me stuff. I miss Felix terribly and these last few days have been horrible without him. WEll I went back to the Rose cause I was hungry. I snuck up to Belinda and got some hot food and cider and then hid in the corner by the fireplace. I feel scared and not wanted. Kaldorians walk around like nothing has happened and the guards like them. Hugo is still following me but because he wants to not because hes ordered . Gods I miss Felix.

Charlotte places the journal in its place and closes the ink .

Charlotte comes back into her house and wanders through each room. She sees her journal sitting on the table next to her bed. She picks it up and takes it over to her writing table.
It's been days since I wrote in here. Much has happened. Now we are working with the Kaldorians and not against them and we are fighting against yew now instead of with them. Politics confuses me and I'm still afraid of the Kaldorians. I went home to spend some time with Mama and Papa. Mama was happy to see me home and Papa figured I was home to stay. I felt so confused and unwanted. Felix has been busy with his father and work and hasnt been around much . Hugo follows me around and is very attentive. I love Felix and I will not go for any other guy. Mama says that when you are in love you glow and it attracts other men. Not sure I want to glow around Hugo. Mama said to follow my heart, so here I am back in New Paws. My head is still confused so I will try to see the dream lady and she if she can get rid of my nightmares.

Charlotte lays down her journal and gets into her uniform and goes on duty.

Charlotte picks up her journal. Shakes her head as its been a week since she last wrote in it. Dips her pen in the ink and tries to figure out all that has happened.

So much has happened. I came home and the Captain was gone and Felix is so tired from looking for him and doing his job. He is still going home and helping when he can with his father, mama's remedies didn't work . I got mugged while he was gone and had my nose broken. Then just as it was healing Tammy and Tessah broke it again two more times. I know I'm ugly looking the bandage they have around my head makes me look like a zombie but with it off I look worse. Hugo has been sweet and very protective , and he took arrows for me even though I still got shot. I wish Felix was here, the nightmares are still here and they only go away is when hes in bed with me.

Charlotte goes and closes te journal and heads for bed.

Charlotte sits down and holds he head in her hands. The hangover is tremendous. She is trying to remember what she did and said. Hugo is so nice and attentive.

Hugo makes me feel so special when Felix isn't here. He protects me and makes me feel good about myself. I think I told him I liked him alot. I hope that was all I said. I know I've kissed him on the cheek a couple of times because hes been so caring of me. I am glad he's my good friend. But theres times I feel so confused.

Charlotte puts on her uniform and goes on duty .
