Post *Reeds Tales*

March the 4th/5th

The ice chilled wind sweeps in from the Great Ocean to the North. Reed walks South, in the direction of Trinsic.

Hunching over, his cloak wrapped about his body, he looks left and right searching the ruins for a dry patch to set down for the night. He never much liked staying indoors, being brought up by the gypsys left him wanting the outdoors to sleep rather than the comforts some others used. He sits down with his back against the ruined wall sheltering him from the winds, draws his knees in close and drifts off into a chilly sleep.

"`Ey Laddeh! Move et!" *Pokes Reed with a stick*

An old man stands over Reed with walking stick raised. Reed jumps to his left to avoid the old mans downward strike but instead of a stick clattering off his head he bumps sideways into a large, bald man carrying many planks of wood and leading a pack donkey. Reed squints his eyes in the sun and then rubs them rather viciously.

"Yer in mah new house lad"

Reed raises an eyebrow, lookes at the old man, then to the large bald man then to the piles of rubble that was once a house before the swamp gobbled it into its stench. The old man flicks through a tatty book then starts barking orders at the bald man and pointing in random areas with his walking stick before looking at the book again. The bald man looks at Reeds uniform and nods.

"Sorry Sir, the old ones dont have no time fer the people defendin` them like."

Still a little bemused and disorientated from being woken up Reed looks at the old man, shrugs and turns to walk North to Marksman Command. As he takes a few steps there is a grunt and a thud, Reed turns around to see the large man on the ground with a Lizardman standing over him with a large bloodie club. The Lizardman turns with a hiss and looks at tthe small old man waving his stick franticly. Reed chuckles, takes out his crossbow and shoots a bolt through one of the Lizardmans hands as he goes to strike. Quickly loading another bolt he shoots it at the hand with the club in it as it is raised to hit the man again. Reed lets out a chuckle and grins widely before shooting another bolt through the Lizardmans leg so that it falls and hisses on the ground bellow the old man. To Reeds shock the old man then thrusts his walking stick through the eye of the beast with a sickening squelch. Reed laughs and turns around again.

"`Ey! Dont you walk away! `EY!

The grin fades from Reeds face as he turns yet again to face the old man, walking towards him at a pace that one would not think a man looking like he could do.

"Yeh saved me lif, so, here, you `ave the house" *Shoves the book into Reeds hands*
"Thanks......."

March the 6th

The sun sets over the edge of a tower in the distance and dark creeps in

Reed settles down into the same ruins that he has slept within for the past few nights, it seemed familliar somehow and somewhat comforting. He opens his backpack and takes out a fishcake and notices the book that was thrust uppon him by the old man. Taking a bite of the fish he examines the book closely, its curoded edges, its wilting spine and the various stains.

"How to Build a House -Anywhere-"

"By Marcus MarcusMcSon"

Reed opens the book and reads the chapter about building on swampland, apparently one of the hardest places to built only after "The very Peak of a Mountain" and "On an Ancient Wyrms Back". After reading for a while and finishing his food, his mind starts to wander and he slowly drifts off to sleep.

Waking the next morning he felt rather refreshed and full of energy. Jumping to his feet he held the book in front of him then as if in deep thought he examines the ruines that he stood in, pondering perhaps, thinking possibility of a house? Of a "Home"? Something he has never realy had. Looking from the ruins to the book and back again several times, a wide grin forms on his face, then like a greyhound out of the trap he sets Southward.

March the 9th

The sun is high in the sky, it seems to be mid afternoon but even with the sun out the chilled sea air blows inland.

"Chapter 4: Swamplands
Part 1: Laying the foundation"

After days of labouring in the swamped ruins as well as his daily duties Reed was almost at the point where the foundations to his house were laid down. First he had to block off the area from the swamp using rocks and bricks to form a perimiter. Then he had to bail the sludge and water from inside the bounderies. Once most of it was gone he then had to fill the inside with sand, dirt, stones, rock, anything he could that would soak up the rest and form a firm floor. Once the floor had been patted down and copressed he then had to move some large rocks to be placed as stairs into his.... floor and ruins. Finaly, a pole and a sign to claim the area as his, and the marksmens.

July the 2nd

Warm summer rain batters down as Reed walks from the doorway of the Abbey in Yew

It was almost a month since the Regiment was disbanded. When told his services were no longer needed by the king Reed hit the bottle quite hard and was seen drunk for a few days without a sober period. At the end of his alchohal fueld rampage on local women the looks of disgust finaly penetrated and he realised he had to sober up and start a new life, without the Marksmen Regiment. He heard of what the Monks at the Abbey could do, help cure a dependancy on Ale. He traveled to Yew with the worst hangover anyone could imagine and met with a Monk there.

"I.. eh.. I like ale too much..... oh.. and women"
"Come child, i can help thee with thine habbits"

After nearly a month he emerged a stronger, better man, picked up his quill and a piece of paper and wrote a letter, to an old friend.
