No more Devante...

It finally happened... my computer is knacked, for the past week now i've been having all sorts of problems, programs crashing etc. I spent my birthday reformatting the thing and all seemed to be going well. Then today the thing crashed whilst updating to service pack 2 now windows won't start.

I really don't know what to do to fix the thing, i can't even run the recovery thingy. Any advice ?...

I'm so stressed out at the moment i can't even go near the thing because i will pick it up and hrow it.

Sorry to all for the event i was supposed to be running tonight.

*sigh*

hi been shown this by taggart,

dont worry too much about service pack 2, as long as you canupdate to the max with SP1 that will be ok, besides if its crashing after a software re-install its likely thought not 100% to be a hardware failure, try one silly thing, clean the comp inside, take the case off get a small hover or dust blower and clean out all the dust from teh fans, chips etc.

bios can tell you temperatures, above 75oC for the cpu is not good normally

this one thing to try.

Your description of the problem points to the hard drive. I am not 100% sure of course, but this looks very probable. Can you replace it with a new one? 200-250 Gb ones are cheap enough (30 to 40 GB pounds here, not sure about the British prices though).

If you decide to buy a new hard drive, keep in mind that there are two kinds: SATA and IDE. You need a drive with the same set of connectors as your old one. Better take your old drive with you and show it to a shop assistant.

Cleaning inside is a good advice too, there are usually piles of dust. Make sure that the processor fan is working ok.

also try starting windows in "safe" mode - usually you can do this by pressing the F8 key during the early stages of Bios start up.

Also you can look at your bios settings by usually pressing the Delete key really early in the boot sequence - have a look at that and make sure the Hard drives are being found by bios.

other than that its difficutl to diagnose the problems from such a vague description =/

You feed us more info and we will fix this I reckon .=)

yeah lyds, hard drive is what i was thinking too after i looked at it last night, after i had cooled down
the thing won't even run in Safe mode or boot up like you say Callum, it's pretty fooked.

So i've ordered the bits i need, so it's just a case of waiting...

it's only been a day, but i miss you all already

With Felix preparing for his holiday that leaves Reed in charge... sorry RM :P

I usually kick the damn thing if it won't work, dude. It is a brilliant idea. The person who said violence and science don't match was a fool.
