| Rifts, rocks and rambling...
Tempers ran high at Umbra University as the sheer amount of gathered wisdom and knowledge literally blew people?s mind. What began as an overview and assessment of the current magical phenomena in Sosaria and Ilshenar ended as a teeth-rattling experience as an aspiring mage caused a detonation in the centre of the audience, badly shaking the shocked listeners out of their discussion. In an interview with the keeper of the University, Mistress Aryala, it was explained that the explosion appears to have been a powerful blackrock explosion, triggered with the help of the fabled Armageddon spell. According to the necromancers, it is only due to the magical safeguards woven into the walls of the University that there are no casualties to be moaned after this gruesome and thoughtless demonstration of destructive power. Yet even after having their hair torched by magical mayhem some of the attendants were caught mumbling the spellwords to themselves, undoubtedly trying to remember them for own experiments later on.
Prior to this inferno, the discussion on the various phenomena had been waging back and forth, with temper running high on all sides. Boiled down to the essence below the many words, the only thing that is known is that not much is known at all. Some of the speakers saw the phenomena to be caused by a lack of harmony among the people, others in the tipped balance of good and evil, some suspected a connection to the virtues while others blamed the people in general. Most noticeable tonight were the findings of Lady Cherry and the observations of Sunnansky, an astronomer from Zento.
In order to share information and to help those trying to investigate and research all the phenomena we have decided to compile and publish both lectures.
Cherry speaking on Rifts

Myself and Decardo investigated both phenomena ,the craters left by the fallen stars and the rifts. For those that do not know, myself and Decardo have an uncanny connection with the ley that criss cross these lands, they are the warp and thread of the tapestry of life. What we uncovered as we examined the rifts, is that they feed from the ley, the energy that flows like silver through our lives, that the rifts draw power from the ley and this is greatly worrying because many of the locations of the rifts are highly dangerous and also highly powerful so that those rifts pose greater threat than others. For example there are nine rifts, of these some lie in dormant places such as in the snow of dagger isle yet others lie at the heart of evil. Such as the one deep inside the orc encampement
In my mind the one that is most of threat apart from the ninth is the one in the dungeon in Ilshenar swamped in blood, that one lies on a nexus of ley all of which are fed by the evil of the dungeon furthermore, what is of great concern is within this dungeon lies a piece of rock, black black in colour and large. Decarod and I could not get close to it for we were constantly beaten back by creatures of a golden hue. But such a large piece of rock laying within proximity of that rift within that dungeon is of great concern if it is indeed black rock. We will try to get closer in further investigations

As it also lies within Ilshenar, if the other rifts have the same potential as that one to bring forth evil then we are indeed facing a doomsday of kinds. Perhaps our armmageddon. However, there has always to be balance. All we have to do is find what that one thing is that will balance it out, for where there is evil,there has to be good otherwise the world would implode. Balance is at the core of it all, we just havent found what that one thing is to counter our present danger. I feel there is much knowledge yet to be sought about these rifts for certain they will bring forth more chaos if as a peoples, we do not unite in finding the element to create harmony once more??.

Sunnansky speaking on Stars
Quote: The skies watch us, you see. It is said, in Zento, that the heavens are as one. The heavens quake because of the Age that we approach. The stars quake and fall because of events that transpire, but, are they linked to the source of the Blackrock? That I do not believe.
The falling stars are a sympton of the sickness that passes the land. Perhaps we should ignore them? Concentrate on more tangible matters? Creatures, you say, blackrock, you say, rifts?, shadows?, magic gone awry? Look upon the things at home and turn away, away from the sky. I have knowledge of eight of these fallen stars, Minoc, Trinsic, Yew, Skara Brae, Moonglow, Jhelom, Magincia, Britain. In some cases, they fell in populated areas. In other cases, empty, quiet, removed and remote places. Why should this happen? Is there some intelligence steering the stars as they fall? Or are those who have been affected simply unlucky.
Is there a purpose in what happens in the Heavens? I must answer you, yes, there is purpose. What is this purpose, you ask? One might as well ask the stars themselves. I will continue to work from Minoc, and will tell you if I discover new things. But I yet feel that there is a connection that is not yet evident to us. Perhaps calmer heads will see what the connection is.
Until then, I retreat, and remain in Britannia and miss my homelands of Zentow here the sky is calm. I can only speak what I see but the lands there are far from calm and utter no ring of prophecy. | |
