heh

Funnily enough over the last ... whatever amount of months ... it is something I have considered asking/applying to join the SSL but for various reasons never ended up doing it.

Why?

Well for one thing whilst I enjoy playing a "game" [and WoW is a very good game] I havent got the time or dedication to play a game which is so item dependent. After nearly two years I still am reading about these "end game" instances which take four hours [plus] to complete with the vague hope of some phat loot at the end [and consequential arguments - something else I dont have the time or the will to even begin to be involved with].

Talking of items brings me to the state of world pvp/"role play" it *is* hard to role play in a world where you cant talk much to the "enemy" - I kind of grokk it but my experience of it on this server is so weak and lame I find it disappointing. Im level 26 and practically have no real good stuff or training etc etc [my own fault I admit that] and what happens? All of a sudden I have spells, pets, polymorphs on me and I am dead before I even know what hit me. Kill on sight. From a lvl 70 character? Or even a level 40 character? When you only have a short period to play in it eats up much time and is completely un role play. Its just pvp.

So my subscription to WoW runs out in a few days and I wont be renewing it for a while [frankly I am happy in UO - lots of little stuff and I can play with freedom there and do my little cameo appearences and interfere and plot and plan in a proper virtual role play environment] because yet again Im stuck in WoW.

Stuck?

Well I got to lvl 25 and now there is a need to venture in contested territory. It simply sucks and it cant be done solo and the lack of new players [ reminisent of UO discussions?] coming through at "my level" means its harder and harder to quest at Hillsbrad. Its pointless pvp fest now and whilst I have had a few fun fights on the whole its gank or be ganked and as pvp is so item dependent its always going to be those with *time* who are going to "win".

I'm not crying about it just had enough of it. =)

Regrets?

I've had a few... main one being I didn't come over to DB or start on DB back when the UOers did way back when. I missed out and Im kicking myself for that as so many good people are over here - Moiraine, Paladis, Kalannar, Megan, Athos, Samson and many more I have forgotten. Players I miss form UO and players who made UO at times a fabulous experience. Also people I see as "friends" and who I miss talking to.

Fun?

Yes WoW is a fun game - rpvp server? I am less convinced but if I had the time would give it a go - and one of my best fun times was when Mordred/Guido guided me and Veggy through SFK. That was so much fun - really nice ooc chat, help , co-operation - it was what WoW should be about.

Summary?

MMOs are still about players not mechanics - well they are to me anyhow - and the SSL is a great guild with some great players and people. And next time I come back to WoW I will be sure to be bugging Samson and Paladis.

Peace?

Keep in touch you lazy gits and send me an icq from time to time.

the way I see it you have 3 options.

1. Quit!
2. Don't quit and avoid Hillsbrad.
3. Don't quit, join SL, and have us come beat up anyone ganking you.

Option 3 wins.

As horde, you will unfortunately have to suffer the level 70 alliance (often paladin) lowbie ganking brigade. It's a proven fact, having played both sides, that horde gets bumraped by random highlevels all the time while levelling.

I can see where ye coming from me old chutney...it can be a right pain in the ass out there.

WoW RP and UORP are 2 totaly different beasts with UORP being far far more user friendly (or maybe just us old timers are too used to UORP *ponders*).

Rolo..option 3 sounds good but lets be honest here, how often do the hi lvls take time out to get revenge everytime a lowbie is slapped around? Often we're in instances/BG's or just busy doing other stuff to stand bodyguard (it does happen at times but not often).

Hang in there Dude,ye know where to find us and hunt us down sometime...maybe someday another game can offer the RP UO offered in its prime.

Which is why, at 70, we're better - I think in equal numbers, we're just plain better at 70 than they are because we got there the hard way. The Alliance are opportunists....for a reason, perhaps.

And yes, SSL revenge is always good fun. I'll never forget after some random killing each other in the arena, Ari, myself, Doom, Fen and Tharag descending (all on fliers, swooped down right on top of them) on a party in Blade's Edge that contained a spitspamming rogue named Saleane that had (with someone else) ganked Tharag 2-1 a few times when he was lower levelled. When I recognised her name nearby - I told the guys and we broke off our arena scrap to go for them.

We let them do whatever they were going to do, then we killed their entire party, 5 on 5, (deaths of libs: 0, deaths of them: 5) ....then we ONLY emote-spammed the rogue and made it very very clear who was responsible for the ensuing corpserun, then flew off together having proven our point clearly.

I remembered I had one shot taken just as we finished and took back to the air. Jeez, lookin at this I was still mutilate - that's longer ago than I had remembered :P

Mafioso mentality ftw. And don't mind Pala - he just doesn't realise it happens under his old nose all the time. :P

hrm well point taken palanub but with the way my game time works atm, I'm not online enough to be busy instancing, if I'm online I'll come kirr who ever, can't garuntee (sp?) it'll stay like that when I'm back to unlimited leisure time at xmas tho.

Tis true tho H, if we are busy instancing we don't drop everything to go help. The way the guild works you're more often then not doing something, out of last 3 times I've logged in I've been asked to dps within 3 minutes twice.

Going to be honest tho, I hate the rp server idea. UO didn't have em, neither did SWG, the result, most rpers gathered together, and the result was with some googling you could find rp where ever you went.

Rolo =)

What I menat by "rpvp server? I am less convinced but if I had the time would give it a go" was that I am not that happy playing on an rpvp server.

Why?

Because basically its not an "r"pvp server - its a pvp server with a fancy pretence at being "role played". Essentially if one meets an Alliance there is no build up to the pvp its basically "bang bang your dead" where is the role play? Its pking in very loose ill-fitting rp clothing and beacuse you have a huge floating sign over your head saying "Im level 20 you can own me in an instant" I would have thought there was *more* opportunity for *role play*.

Hell I dont mind getting killed - there isnt even any looting - but for the love of god ...

Level 70 Paladin fighting level 25 warlock - he kills me in 4 seconds without any role play and then disappears - what was that all about?

Why not tease me, scare me, frighten me, amuse me, chase me, stalk me, threaten me, laugh at me and generally show some imagination, rather than a quick metaphoric fumble and then off into the night? Why did he kill the warlock? For what purpose? Surely thats what role play is all about? Heavens to betsy he knows I cant kill him so why not make it enjoyable for both of us? Why not show some finesse? Some *real* skill or real role play?

[Sorry I'm ranting a little now but anyone who knows me knows I have been searching for utopia for way too long now to give up trying]

Bah

Humbug

=)

WoW isn't made for cross faction RP of any form really. Some do try but that only tends to be mainly the known forum names and thier alts in truth.

End of the day any pvp-rpvp server basically means red is dead.If not then your a carebear. The so called RP elitists would say lvl is ooc info to justify thier actions and if they left you alone they would be metagaming...never mind the fact they're in a known lowbie area and only there to kill those they can actualy kill.

Personaly i never liked the idea of going on any pvp server...but truth be told now i find none pvp servers alittle boring as there is no threat...even tagging yeself for pvp tends to leave no threat as people still leave you alone (or even get whispered as a trouble maker and should return to pvp realm).

Utopia is a myth...true story...'onest.

cal seriously have a look at www.darkfallonline.com it might never happen (been alooooong time in the making) but if it does it might be what you're looking for, I'm going to head that way meself if it ever happens.

I feel the same way as pala tho, I really can't play on a non pvp server drives me insane, can't even play normal UO now, trammel drives me mad despite the fact I never played UO pre tram.

Server used to be better. The Starseekers used to be great in ashenvale, if you were horde you were dead -unless- you were a loan tauren druid who they'd keep an eye on, but hey as the game gets older more and more people want to pve or pvp, now there is such a thing as "endgame pvp" (arena's) less and less people rp, me being as bad as this as anyone else, I do enjoy rp but I don't go out of my way to do it, if I get the chance I will but...well WoW isn't as good as UO on that front as has been said in this thread a couple of times.

Its a shame you didnt decide to stay Callum, I remember that dungeon crawl myself, and ill tell you this...i did 1 quest in Hillsbrad and look what level I am now :P There are options and ways round things Ive found out and as you get higher you only get the keener players about anyway. Joining SSL for me has gave the options for small revenge occasionaly when people ive killed bring back there lvl 70's only for me to call in the crew who havent failed yet to kick some alliance arse :P

I'll admit I miss UO, I have left some friends there, but then again, most of them have been on WoW for ages now, so theres no RP for me anymore, but I realy am enjoying a fresh start in a new game to me with familiar ppl. Maybe one day you decide to come back, get back in touch matey....We will get you through it!

Silluh man!!!!!!

But...anyway...most of us know where ya comin from and what you are like. You always had this excellent rp thing about you. A talent for it. I too miss em days but...well...dem are very hard to get back.

I would say stick around tbh. I never asked for much help myself when I was leveling but the few times that I did Libertines where there on the spot and I dunt only mean the ex-uoers. I know I was a bit busy but only because being 70 but undergeared is worse than not being 70. So I had to make a few runs and stuff just to gear up. Now that I am at a satisfying level of gear I can always help whenever ya want.

Corpse runs arent all that bad. Yeah the odd ally knocks ya and runs, you have to run back to your corpse an all that but its no biggy tbh. Just a waste of the odd 5 minutes.

Now I KNOW you're having second thoughts about this *uses old jedi mind trick* !!!!!!

If ya do...I have only two words of advice.
First, while ya level pug a lot. I mean try em instances with groups of people ya dont know. I did that all the way but I ended up making some very very nice friends like amasalma which is now a libertine and a few others. So PuG!
Second...Ive seen RP in the sense that we know it happenin a lot in Silvermoon City. I've also kept the names of the people who i've seen rp uo style so I can give em to ya an maybe ya manage to draw us in this whole loop again!

Well all that said....I will hate you forever and ever and ever if ya go!!!!...

Just kiddin!!!!

I just want you to stay tbh is all. Otherwise take care buddeh!!! *hugs*
