!!!Vesper Baronal Elections!!!

The time in Vesper approaches again, the time of the baronal elections where either a new baron will be elected or the current one (Olk Samsca) shall keep his place! The elections will take place two weeks from now on sunday the 27th of January from 7pm GMT time. The voting shall take place at Vesper Town Hall where two booths will be open to vote in.
Anyone can run for baron but only Vesparian citizens and folk associated with Vesper such as traders will be allowed to vote. The folk associated with Vesper will need official papers that will need to be shown when they vote.
These official papers can be obtained on each Thursday between 7-8pm GMT of the two weeks between now and the elections. Yer will get them off Captain Escaflowne who shall be waiting in the Swaggers.
If you wish to run for Baron please notify Captain Esaflowne via the pidgeon number 136-016-357. Yer will have the two weeks before the election to run yer advertising campaign to win the votes of the voters. Also if you are running for Baron you must make a reply to this thread advertising what you will do for Vesper, you could also edit it throughout your campaign and add in bits that you have carried out in the two weeks.

So the elections will take place in two weeks time on Sunday the 27th of January from 7pm GMT at the Vesper Town Hall!

I, Lord Elliot Heath, shall once more be running for the status of Baron of Vesper.

I offer a return to real leadership in the republic, and an end to anarchy. I will introduce stronger policing of Vesper laws. Pirates and criminals shall no longer be allowed to act as they will without fear of retribution. Known pirates shall be hanged. I will gather strength in the militia in order to re-secure the borders against the Yewish enemy, and work towards the annexation of Bucaneers den, to protect us from the pirate scum, and against attacks from the south through the transport arch. With me, Vesper shall be a safe and strong city once more.

Punishments for crime shall be greatly increased. Theft from a Vesperian civilian shall be punished by the removal of an offending finger. Assault shall be dealt with by lashes or the iron maiden; murder by death.

To further cut crime, undesirable races shall be banned unless in posession of a race pass, available for 10,000 gold coins for one week. Proceeds shall be given to the militia to spend on training and equipment. Weapons shall be prohibited for the civilian population unless a permit is bought for 5,000 gold coins.

My changes will ensure that Vesper grows from a costal town to Britannia's greatest power. We shall show the loyalists that rebellion does not mean anarchy, and will force them one day to pledge loyalty to us.

Military Regards:

The day to day running of the militia will remain in the capable hands of it's current leadership, however I will take the position of high commander. The talent of the militia is unmatched in battle, but until now it has lacked a true direction. With me in charge, that shall never be a problem again.

Under my rule, the militia will be kept intact, however more city funds will be spent on it's upkeep. A fleet of ships shall be bought, from which we can begin an amphibious assault on the city of Trinsic. If the land can be found, further money will be spent on building a barracks for the militia, so that they have no need to return to their homes while on duty. This will allowed a shortened reaction time to threats within Vesper, and keep out civilians safer.

The Vesper trading company members will be treated like any other civilians. If they break the law they shall be punished harshly and quickly. They will not be allowed to run rampant around the city and comit crimes right infront of the militia, as has happened in the past.

Once the fleet has been completed, I will ask the militia to take the island of bucaneers den. This island is perfectly placed, as it is reachable through a teleporter from our own city, but is also close enough to be used as a base for naval attacks on Trinsic, should our fragile truce break down.

Van for Baron

Dear Vesperians, Veeties, and others.

A new election is dawning, and it's time for a new path. Why vote for someone so far up his arse he does what -HE- thinks is good for Vesper? Well the time for change is now. Vote for me and I'll do what -YOU- think is good for Vesper!

I'm no noble, far from it, I'm just a common man with more pot luck and wit then brains and brute, but thats what makes me the ideal candidate. Living among my fellow Vesperians, I know you've not been happy of late, and Vesper has slumped into a depression. I see this as my duty to take us out from that depression and into a new era for Vesper, no, for Britannia.

Too much change all at once is too bad, so I propose the following plan in the respected areas;

The Militia

The Militia is the heartbeat of Vesper, and with the recent depression and dip in numbers, large measures need to be taken out to fix this problem.

1. All wages for members of our militia will receive a 50% increase in their weekly wages.

2. Regular patrols will be taken out to make sure our lands are clean from scum.

3. Regular training sessions are also to be taken place. Those that improve the most in training shall gain a small gold reward.

4. Our men and women are to help out the Rebels based in Cedarwood with their conflict against the Yewish.

5. Money is to be invested into the future of the militia. We shall construct an acedemy for where young people may come and learn, with the help of books, tutors and most importantly, front line combat experience.

6. Some thoughts and money may be put into the building of a training arena. Otherwise we can stick to a little hand made one from water filled barrels stationed North of the Swaggers.

7. All militia members will be taught how to sail a ship and all that goes with it.

8. Also all members of the militia are to be rewarded with a 20% off all drinks from the Swaggers, of which are over thirty gold peices in value.

Vesper

1. West Vesper (formerly Minoc) will be given it's own Governer of state. There is no need for it to stick out on it's own like a sore thumb, so we shall embrace it and use it's resource income to help with our trades.

2. A while ago we used to have public bath houses in Vesper, but we don't anymore. I suggest instead of spending money on building a new one would be rather useless as there is a perfectly good one on the island of Bucc's Den which we shall use. Hopefully I'll be able to get some young females to rub down the men, and some nice fella's for the women.

3. Once every two weeks, a stage shall be constructed on the beach, and there we shall host plays, live bands, stand up comedy or important speeches.

All citizens of Vesper will no longer have to worry about taxes, for once I am made Baron, all taxes will be dropped!

Sexual harassement will be a 1000 gold fine and 15 minutes in jail.
Racial harassement will be a 200 gold fine.
Religious harassement will be a 200 gold fine.
Militia harassement, thats harassement by the militia, will be a 500 gold fine and depending on it's seriousness, can end in a demotion or even exiled from the militia.

Also the "Women must wear hats on Sundays" law will be discarded. Some people fine it "sexiest", but I personally don't get turned on by it, and nor do the women like it.

The Swaggers

The Swaggers is what brings people to Vesper, so it's important to make sure it's at the best it can be to help with the attraction for young soldiers and bar staff.

1. We forget that The Swaggers Inn is ran by a trading company, so I shall make sure trading business is to be on the rise with regular trades between Vesper and Trinsic. What can we offer them? Wood, fish, ore and bones. What can they offer us? Weapons, armour, wine and cooked food.

2. With trading sorted, we will host fortnightly Markets which I would like the Veeties to organise. Here people all over Sosaria can come, set up a stall, and sell their bits and bobs.

3. The Swaggers seems to be the main target for all raids that come to Vesper, so a boost in security is a must. Either by employing more bouncers, or positioning some militia there.

4. All crafters of Vesper will be entitled to three free drinks in the morning hours.

On a final note, if you do not vote for me, I fear it is the end of the Van Cocidius legacy..

3. War upon Yew. The bullies in Yew need to be stopped!

5. Cleaner buildings and streets. Peasants must make their houses prettier as well. A cleaner and nicer Vesper!

6. No more bullying! Law will come to make stop all the bulling in Vesper!

10. Sunday is travel day. All citizens should wear their finest outfits and travel around to make Vesper look good to others! Stories will be shared later at Swaggers.

Greetings to you citizen of Vesper,

Now the elections have started I feel it would be important to introduce myself. My name is Amarante, Vesperian born and raised. Over the years i have seen Vesper in its greatest times and also through its worst. I have a list of changes which i would like to implement if i am elected as Baroness, all, of course, are for the best of Vesper and her citizens.

Law removal or changes
- Moving the laws housebreaking / burglary into the major offenses category. Punishment for the crime would be jail time for a minimum of 35 minutes with a 600 gold fine. Moving this law will lower the risk of housebreaking and injurys related, within Vesper.

- Moving the law Theft and mugging to the major offenses due to the increase in robberys recently.

- The complete removal of the 'ladies wear hats on Sunday' law. The law, in my honest opinion is unnecessary and sexest, it is better removed to bring equality to the ladys and gentlemen of Vesper.

- A new law to be added, unless provoked or given permission by a member of Vespers leadership then no one is too be armed within Vesper. An exception to this would be the Swaggers tavern guards and the militia. This law would make it safer in Vesper and would also prevent more accidental deaths.

- The use of nightshade will now be legal for pain relief. A permission slip will need to be acquired by leadership of Vesper.

- A crackdown on the hostile race law will be done. No drow, undead or orcs may enter Vesper without warning of forceful removal.
Changes regarding the militia

Military changes

- Militia wages will be risen by a whole 7% .

- Patrols will be doubled around the whole of Vesper as robberys and attempted murder have recently risen.

-Weapons and armour will be imported from different parts of Sosaria.
- Trainings will be held as usual however guest trainers will be called in to help give Vesper an idea of the other kinds of tactics.

- Loose ends will be tied with the Covian army, hopefully which will result in peace.

- With the aid of the craftsmen a wall will be built around the Swaggers and military lands. This will keep enemy's out for long enough to either prepare the troops or evacuate completely.

-A new training ground will be built for the militia, it will include equipment to aid training in combat and defense.

- When called aid will be given to the rebellion in Yew as many of those fighting to save it are also citizens of Vesper by law.

General changes

- A bathhouse will be built for the citizens and militia alike, no charge for a bath.

- Trade will be established between Cove and Vesper and Trinsic and Vesper.

- Festivals and markets to be held each new season to celebrate whats to come.

- Buildings will be cleaned up on a regular basis as well as repainted and repairs made.

- A nursery will be opened for small children.

Keep an eye on this dear citizens as i will be adding new changes on a regular basis. Do Vesper a favour and vote for Amarante!

Changes in policies:

Because ALL other candidates are stealing some of my good policies, I want to give out a few more ideas what I will do when I am lord Baron.

1. Hang a Yew militia
HUGE reward will be payed to those doing it

2. All citizens must be classified as either noble, commoner or peasant. All public servants will automatically be commoners, and so will all those who look decent. Peasants will typically be farmers, fishers, woodcrafters and such. Miners WILL be commoners as they are useful. The tax increase will ONLY be for peasants. Commoners will not pay more tax, while nobles will not need to pay tax. Peasants should work harder to become commoners.

3. Hug rule
No one is allowed to refuse a hug. If so happens a report should be given to the militia for immediate fining of 100 gold coins or two hugs as compensation

4. Militia rule
Militia will get better meals and entertainment on regular basis

DUN DUN DUN, This is Tonight ladies and Gents, they will be hosted at the town hall which is east of the Swaggers, a bar will be serving drinks outside the town hall, when all the votes have been made everyone shall proceed into the townhall where the new baron will be announced.
