The Sosarian Olympic Games

News Page!

The Olympic Games are finally here, after last night the Lord Baron of Vesper, Deacon van Cocidius lit the Olympic torch with the flame of the Phoenix! There was a good turnout from people all over Sosaria - People from Vesper, Cove, Jhelom, Trinsic, Buc's Den and Skara Brae. Also rumours that the Yewish are also to take part but were unavailable for the opening ceremony.

The competitors had a chance to look at the games on offer throughout the week, and put forward their names if certain they could make it. Those that were unsure that they could make it or not, are able to just turn up to the event and they will be welcome to put their name down. The competitors were also filled in the what prizes are on offer! The chance to win either a gold, silver or bronze sash which come hand in hand with huge cash prizes! Not only that but the winning team is to win on million dubloons to share amongst themselves, aswell as the honour of taking home The Olympic Sword. The winners of the sword are offered the chance to host the next Olympic Games!

The Olympic Sword

The ceremony also played debut for Vesper new national anthem under the reign of Deacon van Cocidius. The lyrics are very self centered, but they're also very well related to what's happening this week.

With the ceremony over, the competitors were invited inside the Swaggers Inn for free drinks as paid by the Baron and Escaflowne. It was plain to see this is the biggest turnout the Swaggers as hosted since the turn of the new year, and the lack of staff really did show. Needless to say, the Olympics started with a blast, this is just what the land needs. Uniting all people across the land and showing, we're all just human.

Boxing Tournament!

Let the games.. Begin!

It was the first event of the Olympic Games, boxing. With it being the first game it was always going to be unsure of how many would take part as only two had put their names down previously. But as the time came closer to eight, the people started to roll in and eight brave brawlers had put themselves foward to battle it out for Gold! The eight competitors were; Lord Gurney of Skara Brae, Jackal Verilax of Buc's Den, Hoagie Grayner and Kal Shadowhand of Cove, Lord Elliot Heath, Thaur Macil and Phil Lynx of Vesper, and Theoden Westaman for the Veeties.

The rules were simple: The only weapons allowed were your fists. Each fight was split into three rounds of thirty seconds. If there was no knockout after the three round, the judge - Baron Deacon van Cocidius - was to choose the winner based on the most punches landed.

So we had Lord Gurney of Skara Brae versus Lord Elliot Heath of Vesper - Battle of the Nobles. We also had Jackal and Thaur to battle it out for Bronze!

The final was a great match, Gurney and Elliot had dominated throughout the tournemant and it was hard to pick a favourite. This match consisted of one round of five minutes, winner would be decided by knockout or most hits landed.

Darts!

Yes Tuesday played host to two games tonight, first off we had the game of Darts! Orginally planned to be played inside the Swaggers Inn.. due to resctriction from Lord British himself, it was moved outdoors - Outside the Town Hall infact.

Darts was moved to outside the Town Hall!

The rules for darts were simple. You had three darts, which you throw at the dartboard from behind the given line. Highest score wins! There was a huge turnout with eighteen entrants for a chance to become the champion of darts!

So Bevier and Javelle gained a total of four points between them for Skara, putting them one point ahead of Vesper on the leaderboard. Vesper kept in close thanks to Lauranthalas adding two points to their previous three, giving them five! But Skara are still ahead on six, and Buc's Den in third with one point.

Archery

Second game of the night, and everybody was up for it as more people turned up after the darts and joined us for a spot of archery at West Vesper. Representatives from Cove and Buc's Den showed up for this one, but did they do themselves proud?

Pew Pew Pew..

Rules were just as they were for darts. You are given a bow with three arrows, and you are to fire all three arrows behind the designated line. Highest score wins. In some cases though, people fired the same score - so there were tiebreakers for Gold, Silver and Bronze position! Tiebreakers was basically that the ones tied, would fire again. Whoever got the highest score second time round, wins the rank.

So Trinsic pick up their first points of the games, Devante and Reann gaining four points for their team and Skara also adding another two to their lead at the top! After a promising start, Vesper had a poor day when it comes to gaining the points in the bag, but it's still early!

Wednesday ment Bagball night at the Olympics! And all four big teams took part in the tournament; Vesper, Trinsic, Cove and Skara Brae. Skara went into this game with a three point advantage over second place Vesper - How did things work out after?

The rules were as follows; Each team was to consist of THREE players each. The idea of the game was to kick the ball, into the other teams goal. No high tackles were allowed, and each match lasted for five minutes. If there was a tie - it was next goal wins.

The results ended up as followed;

Vesper 6 - 0 Skara

So this ment that Vesper and Trinsic would meet in the final, as Skara Brae would battle Cove for bronze.

Skara managed to come from behind in a close match and gain third, and Vesper managed to overpower Trinsic in every department of the field as they had done with Skara before hand, and in reward - they gained gold position.

So with these results, it gets tighter at the top, Vesper pulling the gap between first and second down to one point with Trinsic also making a good attempt for top spot!

Halfway through the Olympics and things were already heating up. Prior to the jousting, there was a spot of bother from an Orc who wanted to pick on Hoagie of Cove. Needless to say, he was then persuaded to take part in the jousting and the game began. We were gifts with again, another huge turnout at a total of sixteen people entered into the joust, though only one could win gold.

Friday night, the weekend is fainlly upon us - and nothing starts a party more than a tournemant of the best Sosaria has to offer. All teams were in action today apart from the Veeties, and for all fairness it's too late for them to place you'd think. Nontheless! Vesper, Trinsic and Skara are all still in running for that Olympic Sword, and nobody was going to get in their way!

Players were allowed to use all skills available to them, but hiding and summoning something else to do the fighting was NOT allowed! With that in order, the carnage.. began.

The Two Finalist.. Sizing One Another Up

Elliot managed to win what was a close encounter, and picked up his third gold medal of the games so far! This man is on fire, without a doubt. You can be sure he's looking to add more to his collection and keep Vesper back on top for the remainder to the olympics. Demarian also managed to keep Trinsic in the race with a silver, but Thaur got that bronze and kept Vesper ahead. But with four games left to go before the games end this Sunday, it's all up for grabs at the top.

Baton Relay

The biggest night of the Olympics so far! With the top three being so close at the top, three games were up for grabs to either extend a lead, or keep things close going into the final day! The first of the games was the team baton relay. Simple game really.. Teams of three, first person runs the legnth and passes on the baton, then the second person does the same passing it to the third, who then runs back past the finish line. First across, wins!

So Vesper started the evening in TOP position, but it was so close and nobody seemed favourite. So four teams were all in;

Despite all best attempts, Vesper managed a comfortable victory with Skara second and Cove a close second! This means Vesper increased their lead on Trinsic by three points, who failed to place even in the top three!

Cow Tipping

Straight after the relay we went straight into the Cow Tipping competition. First three would place in their respective placed based on their time tipped. The game ofcourse was over in seconds with Fingo of Cove coming first, Elliot of Vesper coming second and Desios coming third!

The final game of a busy Saturday evening, was the summoning duels. A total of eight talented Magi from all over Sosaria entered themselves, all hoping to win one of those precious gold sashes!

Elliot picked up yet ANOTHER golden sash, such an inspiration to the Vesper team without a doubt! Skara with another silver and bronze again for Vesper. As the leaderboard shows, first place is in the hands of Vesper, but with the climax in sight the stakes need to be raised, with DOUBLE points for your team. This means if you win gold, you'll get six points. Silver will be four and two for bronze. But instead of you having ALL you team enter, each team may only enter ONE member of their team to compete in the Triathlon. This one person will have to be able to sail, ride a horse, and run. So tomorrow should be an interesting evening!

Triathlon

The end of a loooooooooooooong week..

The very last game of what's been a long but fun week of the very first Sosarian Olympics. The triathlon was planned to give the toughest of athlete's a challenge. Even the Orcs came to witness the end of the Olympics, although they seemed to be more interested in the Olym-pig..

Mega lak Olym-pig!

Each team had to nominate their best competitor to take this race and try to win double points for their team. It started at Vesper docks, where the competitors were to sail their way along the coasts of Vesper up onto Swaggerland's beach, where they would then run up infront of the Swaggers and mount their horse. Upon horseback, they headed north to Minoc, past the mountains, and down the bridge - into Vesper. At Vesper bank, they dismount and ran the rest of the distance on foot, from island to island on a course plotted by flames. But who was to cross the line first? Well.. it was Jackal Verilax of Bucc's Den, though he was disqualified for taking a 'shortcut'.. So who was second.. but to take the gold? No other than Elliot Heath, with Skara coming a close second and Cove coming last, but wearing bronze. Trinsic failed to take part in the race, and Vesper's Trading Company also failed to make an appearance all week apart from Monday's boxing.

With the last of the sashes given out, it was time to declare the overall winners of the Olympic Games, via the overall leader board stated below;

3. Trinsic - 11pts
4. Cove - 8pts
5. Bucc's Den - 2pts
6. Vesper Trading Company - 0pts

So it was Vesper, winning my a landslide with a total gap of 9 points between first and second. They won the million dubloon check, and the grand prize that has no value.. The Olympic Sword. Not to mention the chance to host the next Olympic Games.

We are the Champions.. My frieeeeeend!

There was also another prize for the competitor of the week, which went to Elliot who managed to win five gold medals and one silver, in total gaining Vesper TWENTY points! He won a check in the totals of half a million dubloons, and a pat on the back.

A word from the Baron..

Dear all, I'd like to thank you all for making these Olympic Games a huge success. It was hard to imagine a few weeks ago that the games would lure in this many competitors from all over Sosaria, but one thing I was certain of, was that it'd be fun. People have told me that they have had a great week and can't wait for the next games, and I in return have told them of the fun I've had, and I look forward to thinking up yet more games to hold in the next Olympics.

First of all though, I need some time off as they've taken alot of time and energy from me but honestly, it's been worth it. The end of the Olympics, doesn't mean the end of the fun. Myself and a few others are already planning other things to bring the people of Sosaria together again, having fun, joking, and getting on. Putting aside our differences, our beleifs, our purpose, and showing that behind all this we're all equal, the same.

Again, I thank you all for your support.
